July-September 2012: The Morning Star project

The Morning Star project is a collaboration between  Mirramu Dance Company and members of the Yirrkala community in Arnhem Land. The custodian of the traditional Morning Star story, Uncle Banula Marika is the cultural consultant for the project.

A new contemporary dance work will be created out of this artistic collaboration. The team members in this project are:

  • Artistic Director: Elizabeth Cameron Dalman
  • Associate Artistic Director: Albert David, Torres Strait Island dancer and MDC member
  • Associate Artistic Director: Djakapurra Munyarryun and two other members of the Yirrkala community
  • MDC members Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal and Miranda Wheen.

A public showing of the work-in-progress will be presented at Mirramu Creative Arts Centre at 2.30pm on Sunday 2 September 2012. Entrance by donation $20 adults, $15 concesssions, $40 family.   Your donation will support Morning Star stage 2 in 2013.

There will be refreshments around the campfire after the showing.

The Morning Star project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

The Morning Star project is supported by the ACT Government.
