Escape to the Lake was fabulous

Twenty one tutors, students and Mirramu staff enjoyed a productive and stimulating weekend at Escape to the Lake from 23 to 25 March. Workshops were held in dance/movement, scultpure in nature, photography and writing. The weather, which had contributed to the postponement of the other outdoor events for Weereewa, held out and was beautifully autumnal – warm even.

The end of weekend event, Jazz by the Lake, had been moved to the Bungendore Memorial Hall just in case that wet weather continued. What a beautiful old hall it is and perfect for the performances of dance, song and jazz.

Alexandra Dalman wowed the audience with her sublime voice with music from French cafe to Gershwin to La Boheme – now that’s talent! Lake Dancer, Alison Wain, joined Elizabeth Cameron Dalman for two pieces of contemporary dance. The James Luke Trio provided some great jazz and all in all a super evening was had by all and a fitting end to a wonderful weekend of arts and creative thinkning.

Many thanks to the guest tutors – TIm Anger, Kathy Kituai and Jeffrey Frith, to the performers and to everyone who made Escape a success including our sponsors, Foodlovers and businesses in Bungendore and Canberra who helped us display our publicity materials. Special thanks to Bernadette and Andreas who slaved in the kitchen all weekend and to Matthieu who had worked so hard to make the grounds look fantastic – and who with his family also brought pastries.

We can’t wait for the next one.
