River 2009

River, a powerful contemporary dance work, has been developed over two years.

It is based on  research on the degradation of the Murray Darling River system and sustainable land and water use practices across our nation.

River had three performances  at The Street Theatre on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of  November 2009. The  performances by the Mirramu Dance Company were accompanied live by renowned cellist, David Pereira.

Christine Simpson’s beautiful suspended sculpture, entitled All the rivers don’t run, which gave its name to a developmental 2008 performance by Mirramu at The Street Theatre, provided a beautiful backdrop.

On the same bill were  This, That and the Other choreographed by Aida Amirkhanian and Opal Vapour, choreographed and performed by Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal.

Members of the Sunday afternoon audience attended a “house full”  forum prior to the show entitled River – just add water at which issues addressed in the performance were discussed from a scientific point of view.

Warm regards
